The 118th Pope and Patriarch of the See of Alexandria

November 4, 2012

COLLEYVILLE, TX. November 4, 2012 -- We thank God for guiding us through this historical event in the Coptic Orthodox Church, The Divine Liturgy held in the St. Mark Cathedral in Cairo, Egypt on November 4, 2012, concluded with the naming of the 118th Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Under the guidance and leadership of H.E. Metropolitan Bishop Pakhomious, the interim caretaker, the Coptic Orthodox Church ended her journey for the selection of the 118th pope. We commend His Eminence for the translucent process of the Altar Lot, as he placed the three final candidates' names, Bishop Raphael, Bishop Tawadrous, and Fr. Raphael Ava Mina, in the vessel which was kept on the altar for the entirety of the Divine Liturgy. The unity of prayers during this historical Divine Liturgy with the bishops, priests, monks, and congregation lifting their hearts to our Lord Jesus Christ to select the 118th Pope for the See of Alexandria was concluded according to the will of God.

Our 118th Pope and Patriarch of the See of Alexandria is Pope Tawadrous II.

We ask the Lord to preserve his life and keep him for the years to come as the shepherd of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
