I don't understand why it is so wrong to watch Harry Potter's movie if we watch it with the conviction and understanding that it is simply fiction.

What is right about Harry Potter? He is depicted as a child of misfortune, abandoned and mistreated. He finds his strength in the world of sorcery. Sorcery, enchantment, witchcraft, and magic become his tools of salvation. That is where the problem resides.

Through no evidence of character or perseverance, Harry Potter finds himself victorious in battles of good versus evil. He is falsely good. This is very misleading and harmful. If in our temporary imagination, we cheer Harry Potter's vengeance over evil, we become too numb to inquire about the source of his power. During this 2 to 3 hour movie, you allow yourself to be taken hostage into this bizarre world. Unfortunately, sorcery is really not fiction.

Deuteronomy 18:9-14, God firmly instructed His people to avoid wicked customs, including sorcery and witchcraft. St. Paul (Acts 13:6-12) rebuked Elymas, the sorcerer, for trying to steer the proconsul Sergius Paulus away from the truth. You will find here that the Gospel was victorious, the proconsul believed, and Elymas was struck blind. Also, please read Revelation 22:14-15, and then you will make the right choice on which side of the gate you want to be. Harry Potter, fiction or not, represents those outsiders rejected by God.

Too much is said about "just a movie". You must set standards for what is acceptable and what is not. Do not compromise God's commandments and His intent for His children to live a righteous life. Is it wise to allow your money that God has given you, to promote something offensive to God for mere entertainment?

Finally, you will find in the Synaxarium Thoout 21 (Oct 1) the beautiful story of a real master of sorcery, St. Cyprian, who had been conquered by the sincere prayers of a young virtuous lady. He converted to Christianity, became a deacon, priest, bishop, and martyr. What is wrong with Harry Potter? Nearly seven sequels later, Harry Potter is still stuck in his misery and will remain there.
