"For they persecute  him whom thou hast smitten, and him whom thou has wounded, they afflict still more" (Psalm 69:26). Who is the Psalmist referring to in this verse?

David the Psalmist refers to himself as being under God’s chastisement, which  had been implemented by his enemies who were ridiculing him. This is also a reference to the Messiah (Isa 53:4,10). God the Father had put His wrath upon Him and the Jews were the implementing tool; for instead of being moved to compassion by the sad spectacle of Jesus' sufferings, they shouted for His crucifixion. They rejoiced when they ought to have wept, and persecuted when they ought to have ministered sympathy to the sufferer.
