I have been a Sunday School teacher for eight years, and my students although good and attentive, yet do not smile nor express happy emotions. Is this just a personality trait that is environmentally acquired, or are these kids suffering from some sort of internal burden? I would love an answer to my question because my aim is to serve them according to their needs.

Since they are good kids and they pay attention in class, it could be just their nature and they do not get excited easily. How much do you know about these kids outside of the Sunday school class? Do they smile outside the class setting? Are they happy kids who communicate well with others? Do you know if they enjoy the class or they feel bored? How do they act during trips or at other activities? Get closer to them and find out what challenges them? You can have also open discussion and notice their behavior and find out what excites them and whether they feel they lack anything in the class. Most importantly do not forget to pray for them and for the service that God may bless it and use you for the glory of His Holy name.
