My conversion to Orthodoxy has not been without its troubles, I am a working class man from England, upon joining the Coptic Orthodox Church, I found solid secure teaching, but I have always felt very alone amongst the people at church. Despite the people being mostly friendly to me, praise God, I have never felt at home as a working class English man amongst clearly middle and upper class Egyptians. Well, Lord have mercy on me, and please guide me how to deal with this.

It is not always easy to get used to a different culture. What you are facing is not how to feel at home in the Coptic Church but how to feel at home among Egyptians who usually find it easier to communicate in Arabic. I do not think it is a problem of class but of language communication convenience. My recommendation to you is to get involved as much as you can in church activities so that you get the chance to bond with the people. Find for yourself the area of service where you can help. Are you a deacon? If not, may be it is time for you to learn the deacons' responses and become one. How is your relationship with the youth? Maybe you can serve them by helping out in their activities. For example, in organizing trips or conventions for them.

Ask your priest to come and visit you and bless your home. I am sure he will make time for this visit and you can discuss with him your feelings and how you can serve in the church.
