Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States

For A Better Egypt

July 9, 2013

COLLEYVILLE, TX. July 9, 2013 -- The Coptic Orthodox Church, under the auspices of the Holy Synod led by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, 118th Pope and Patriarch of the City of Alexandria, Egypt and See of St Mark, unites in supporting the transition in government in Egypt. Coptic Christians support the military stance, the protection it affords all the citizens of Egypt, and further would like to thank the military for ensuring that the ardent will of the people is heard throughout our country and the world. The Coptic Orthodox Church firmly supports the democratic process, its rebirth and renewal, in Egypt. These peaceful efforts is supported by the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern US but violence in all its forms is condemned by the Diocese. Through this democratic process, we adhere to a calm, non-violent means to accomplish the will of the citizens without the spilling of blood on Egyptian soil.

In efforts to assist Egypt, a special Synodical Committee has been established to accept Coptic donations from all dioceses. The donations are to be channeled through the Synodical Committee to support Egypt, its military personnel, commerce, and regrowth. The donations will also support a political platform which will cultivate an independent Egypt non-reliant on other countries for monetary support.

We pray for those who have suffered loss in its infancy of establishment and hope for a continual progression in a peaceful manner.
