I would like to know our church's position on the morning after pill which has an active ingredient used as an emergency contraception.

Three outcomes occur with the use of such pills:
  • Ovulation is inhibited.
  • Menstrual cycle is altered.
  • The lining of the uterus is irritated causing a hostile environment for implantation of a fertilized egg.
Discussions are in progress to determine if this pill has the potential to qualify as an abortifacient. Consideration is given to its primary use as a remedy rather than for prevention. At the present time the "morning after pill" is not endorsed nor encouraged by the church.
