My oldest son has lost hope, drive, and willingness to live. He prays before going to bed that God takes him in his sleep. He is well loved by his family and his friends and spares no time or effort in helping anyone asking for his help. He does not befriend anyone with a questionable character and his time is spent with friends from Church that are well known to us. He feels inferior to everyone as he did not complete his university education and his siblings are excelling in their lives. He is unable and unwilling to work hard towards making any changes in his life. He loves them dearly and does not envy them. I offered to make an appointment for him to see a psychiatric, but he declined.

From your description, your son’s mental health condition is of concern. The step you took in offering him a psychiatric visit for an evaluation was the wise and right thing to do. There are some family therapists which do make home visits. If you cannot find one in private practice, search in some of the local university programs which may offer this service provided by supervised Masters and Doctoral students in this field of study. If his condition worsens, please be advised that most local hospitals do have involuntary admittance, emergency commitment, Baker Act, etc., to remove a person from an environment where he may endanger himself or harm someone else. Consult your son’s physicians now and prepare a list of local psychiatrists and other referrals to contact should the situation get out-of-hand later.
