I understand that the current the Coptic Church acknowledges Eritrean Patriarch. I found a message written by H.H. Abune Antonios that he refused any patriarch to be ordained because his removal by the synod was illegal by the Church canon. I would like you to explain to me this please. I am in need of this information because I always feel that if the current patriarch and the bishops ordain me, I am rejecting H.H. Abune Antonios' condemnation in the name of the Holy Trinity. I am also aware of that H.G. Bishop Makarios of North America recognizes H.H. Abune Antonios as the Canonical Patriarch.
This is the message of H.H. Abune Antonios translated in English: http://tewahdo.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=110:letter-from-hh-antonios-patriarch-of-the-eritrean-orthodox-church-&Itemid=115
The Coptic Orthodox Church recognizes the acting/interim patriarch. We also still recognize, respect, and pray for H.H. Abune Antonios I, the canonical patriarch, and mention him in the Divine Liturgy when praying for the Eritrean patriarch. From the perspective of the Coptic Orthodox Church, ordinations performed under the auspices of the acting/interim patriarch are valid and legitimate because they also include other bishops from the Holy Synod.
