How can someone stop using the Internet for unnecessary reasons like surfing, watching YouTube, scrolling on reddit etc? Is there any trick to accomplishing this? I have been thinking that my life would be better without the Internet except when unavoidable, e.g., for school, and I will have more time to do useful things whether spiritual, work-related, or spending time with people. Currently, I am spending about 1 - 3 hours per day surfing. I have spent a few weeks without Internet before and I felt that it was great.

The Lord said, "if your eye offends, it pluck it out" (cf. Matthew 5:29; 18:9). Applying the same principle, remove the internet from your house (or ask you family to not give you the password if you cannot remove it from the house) and/or your phone. When you have to use it, go to a public library. This can be a temporary solution till your will becomes stronger than your senses. Your will must be stronger than your senses. Set a time, maybe one hour maximum, in which you will check whatever you need, not just what you want, on social media. Treat social media as you would a store or business. Most people do not go to a clothing store unless they need clothing or to the supermarket unless they need food or to an appliance store unless they need appliances, etc. Thus, use social media for needs rather than just for strolling around aimlessly like at a mall. Distractions and wasting time are some of the devil's clever tools in his supply chest of wickedness.
