How and why do people differ in their levels of spirituality? What is the determining factor that makes a martyr ready to offer his life for Christ and another person who struggles with the basics of a victorious Christian life?

In the parable of the Talents (Mt 25:14-30; Lk 19:11-27) our Lord Jesus Christ explained that we all receive different talents according to our own ability "To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability" (Mt 25:15). It is up to us, no matter how much great or little we have received from the Lord, to use these talents the best way we can. In the parable, when the time came to settle the accounts, the one who had received five talents brought back five other talents; the one who had received two talents brought two more. Both were rewarded equally. "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord" (Mt 25:21,23). What God has rewarded here is not the number but the perfection in perseverance and trying with whatever means we have to reach fullness. God wants us to do the best we can, according to our own ability, putting laziness and sluggishness aside.
