My friend's views concerning the bible and church teachings is that everything is relative and subject to change, and that church authorities interpret the bible according to their personal views and bias. What can I say to him?

You can talk to your friend about the danger of relying on one's own mind and interpretation. Heretics like Arius, Nestorius and others who had had the good intention of interpreting the Holy Bible and defining the nature of Christ and other dogmas the 'right' way, ended up falling into heresies. The Holy Bible tells us "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding" (Prov 3:5). It is true that we do not take everything we hear blindfolded; but when it comes to the teaching of the Holy Bible as explained by the early church fathers, we should not appoint ourselves as judges of the authenticity of this teaching but with all humbleness accept it for "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" (Prov 16:25).
