Could Your Grace please list at least five explicit claims by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself as to His Divinity?

  • "Do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? (John 10:36)
  • "For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will." (John 5:21) Who can give life except God?
  • God the Father Himself testified to the Lord Christ at the time of His baptism, saying "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Mt 3:17, Lk 3:22) This testimony was accompanied by miracles; the heaven was opened, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove upon Him and the voice of the Father came from heaven witnessing. If Christ was son in the ordinary sense as all people are, what need there would be then for such miracles and for the Divine manifestation of the Trinity?
  • In the Transfiguration, the Father testified again for the Son "And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!" (Mark 9:7) If the Lord Christ were an ordinary son, why need this testimony from the Father and why would God says "Hear Him" commanding us to submit to Him?
  • When the Lord Christ asked His disciples "But who do you say that I am?" (Mt 16:15) St Peter answered "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And the Lord beatified him saying "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it." Again if this sonship were ordinary what need there would be for such beatitude? And what would be the significance of building the church on that rock of faith?
