What will happen if we depart from this life not having obtained full victory over a certain sin that we have been fighting against for a period in our lives? Will we be condemned or will God's mercy prevail?

Regarding sin, God is very merciful and knows what is in the heart of each one of us. As long as you are really struggling to give up this particular sin, rest assured  that one day you will overcome it. Knowing the Scriptures and knowing what is right and wrong is not enough. We need to apply it to our life. You need to believe that you can overcome this sin and that with the help of the Lord you are strong enough to do so "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phil 4:13). Pray to God to help you have victory over sin and keep you holy as He is holy.
