1. Baptism grants us spiritual rebirth and renewal:

  • • “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (Jhn3:3).
  • • “… Having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever” (1 Pet 1:23).
  • • “… According to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Tit 3:5).
  • • “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision, nor uncircumcision avails much, but a new creation.” (Gal 6:15).
  • • “Since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him” (Col 3:9,10).
2. Baptism purifies us by the remission of our sins:
  • • “Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).
  • • “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it, that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word” (Eph 5:25,26).
  • • “You were washed, and you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Cor 6:11).

3. Baptism grants us to be children God through adoption:
  • • “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ, have put on Christ” (Gal 3:26, 27).
  • • “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba, Father. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Rom8:15).
  • • “Having predestined us to the adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will” (Eph1:5).

4. Finally it grants us salvation to inherit eternal life:
  • • “He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned” (MK16:16).
  • • “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.” (1 Pet 1:3, 4).
